IPL 2025 is the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League. Introduced on 13th May 2008, the Purple Cap is an individual accolade that is awarded to the bowler who scalps the most number of wickets at the end of the tournament. Pakistani pacer Sohail Tanvir won the very first Purple Cap in IPL history after bagging 22 wickets from just 11 games, thereby helping Rajasthan Royals clinch their maiden title. What are the Rules for IPL 2025 Purple Cap?
- The IPL Purple Cap is awarded to the bowler who has the most wickets to his name.
- During the tournament, the bowler with the current highest wickets to his name gets to wear the cap when his team is fielding.
- In case one or more bowlers have the same number of scalped wickets, then the bowler with the better economy rate will get the cap.
- If a player surpasses the previous highest wicket getter during the game, then the previous holder is allowed to wear the cap till the end of that innings.
